My style is best described as 'photo-manipulation on steroids' combining unique Photoshop techniques and digital painting. With the exception of the original digital photograph, my work is created entirely on a computer utilizing my knowledge of digital techniques and the traditional art skills I learned in my younger days.
In order of frequency:
How long does it take you to create an image?
Typically in-between 2 and 4 days. There have been occasions when I've been able to finish an image in only one day but I like to sleep on it for at least one night.
What programs do you use?
95% Photoshop. I rarely use other programs but I sometimes like to incorporate 3D into an image using 3DMax or some nice brush textures using ArtRage.
Are you available for commissions?
I am not available at this time but you can CONTACT ME to add you name to the list in the event that my time frees up.
Do you take the reference photos yourself?
These days, yes. I got my start using stock from various websites but I got tired of the copyright issues. Now, the photography portion of my work is the most enjoyable.
How long have you been creating digital art?
I started using Photoshop in 1998 with 4.0. Funny story actually - I had a mechanical drafting class in high school and it was so boring so my friends and I would sit in the back of the classroom playing in Photoshop and 3DMax.
All of the art you see in my gallery is no more than 4 years old.
Do you teach classes?
No but someday I will create a dvd tutorial. I'm holding off on that though until I get what I consider to be a satisfying amount of recognition for this style.
Can I create artwork like yours if I learn Photoshop?
Look to your traditional art skills. I believe that the general skill you have in art is more important than how well you know digital techniques.
Where do you come up with your ideas/what inspires you?
Real life mostly. I consider the 'concept' to be the best part of my work so I put a lot of thought into it and I try not to hold back from expressing myself.
Where can I purchase a print of yours?
Do you use any special filters?
No. I use common Photoshop tools. In fact, I still use CS2 and I don't see the need to upgrade. I stuck with Photoshop 6.0 for a long time.
Do you use a tablet or a mouse?
A mouse 90% of the time. My style is more technical than strict digital painting so there is more of a need for clicking around than making brush strokes. I like to use a tablet for hair and some effects.
How old are you?
What file size do you use?
The minimum size I use is 12"x 18" @ 300dpi (3600 x 5400pixels)
Why don't you live in New York City or LA?
With the internet, I am able to do business anywhere. Plus, I like to call myself the Stephen King of the digital art world - living in the middle of nowhere!
Why don't you have any male characters?
The majority of my work includes a deep, emotional concept and I think that is best expressed through a female character. Also, 'sexy' is an important part of my inspiration and I find more of that in females.
Who are other digital artists that you like?
Anry Nemo and Craig Mullins. Chuck Close (traditional)
