I think I always knew that art was in my future. Even as far back as preschool I can remember drawing pictures in class and wondering why no one else put as much time and effort into it. I do believe that the focus and determination it takes to be a successful artist is something people are born with so I don’t really see it as something I was in control of. My job was to nurture it and try not to take it for granted.
Being featured on magazine covers has been one of the true joys of my career. It has brought me a lot of additional exposure, and as our world becomes more and more digital, I still enjoy the printed copy that I can feel in my hands.
These are a few past invitations from shows I have participated in. Taking part in gallery shows is a good way to get my work seen in print form, which always exceeds how it looks in small samples online.
Retouching was how I got my start with paid work. I began by contacting good photographers and asking them if I could practice by editing their images for free. Over time, I built up a portfolio and the paid work started to flow in. Photographers typically came to me with images that needed more than the average clean up. You can see some of my more extreme examples below.
Lately I have been focusing on a new series I created called TEAM GOLD which focuses on Olympic gold medal winning athletes. I travel around the US photographing these athletes and to date I have worked with 6 gold medalists for this series. This work is only in its early development and it is a
serious challenge but there is a lot of satisfaction in working with those who have achieved such great heights in athletics.
Besides art, traveling is one of my great loves. I have traveled to over 30 countries around the world and I always bring my camera with me.
